The currency in the game is foil-wrapped chocolate coins. You can get currency by smashing ruined garden pieces, or by trading in your piñata. It has been speculated that you may also be able to get chocolate coins for selling resources that your pinatas produce, like Buzzlegum's honey. Another resource that you can obtain and sell is candy from a broken pinata, possibly smashed with a shovel. Be careful about doing this however because their will be consquences.
You need to pay helpers with chocolate coins in order to keep them happy, and if they're not satisfied, they'll walk off the job. Currency can also be used to buy new things for your garden from the shop. It should be noted that there are bronze, silver and gold coins, gold probably being worth the most.
