As well as the standard version of Viva Piñata, there is in fact a 'special edition' of Viva Pinata available. This version of the game comes in a special plastic and cardboard case and includes two discs. The first disc contains the game itself, which is identical to the non-special edition game, and another second 'extras' disc. This second disc contains an episode of the Viva Pinata television series, and demos of Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy and the Frogger, Time Pilot, Marble Blast and Cloning Clyde games.

However, it should be noted that none of this content is in fact exclusive to the special edition. The demos and also various episodes of the Viva Pinata series can all be downloaded from X-Box Live for free. This is a marked contrast to other gaming special editions, such as the Halo 2 Special Edition which actually does feature exclusive content such as developer interviews. In fact, some gamers may prefer to purchase the normal edition of the game as it is more likely to fit neatly alongside their other games. The Special Edition's odd shaped packaging, on the other hand, makes it trickier to store in a DVD rack or similar.
