In the general sense, a piñata is a bright candy-and-toy-filled container (generally suspended on a rope from a tree branch or ceiling) that is used during celebrations. A succession of blindfolded, stick-wielding children try to break the piñata in order to collect the candy inside of it. It has been used for hundreds of years to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays and Christmas.

In the world of Viva Piñata, they start out living the sweet life filling up with candy and other treats. Once they reach maximum candiosity, piñatas are called to duty and dispatched via cannoñata from the island to delight fun-lovers everywhere... in the traditional piñata way (bashed open by bat-wielding revelers!)

Then they head back to Piñata Island to do it all over again!

There are 60 Piñata species to raise and collect!
