Template talk:SpeciesInfobox
We are going to need to add Romance Requirements in here at some point... If all the requirements turn out to be wordy enough we should probably put them in the main text of the page rather than the info box.
Spartan also suggested adding a rarity field, which might be a good idea. --Jimmcq 04:43, 18 October 2006 (EDT)
The rarity field sounds like a great idea! I agree about using the main text of the page, to list the requirements. What do you think of the heading "Species Development" or "Advanced Species" for the "family tree" information?
My earlier ideas are still hiding on Talk:Mousemallow --FeralKitty 05:12, 18 October 2006 (EDT)
I was thinking the same thing about the romance requirements too. A family/development tree is a great idea too. A whole lot of possibilities open up to us don't they?

I realize that changing the info box at this point may not be a good idea because we only have the info for the Whirlm. But we already have some ideas of what pinatas would be be common, uncommon, rare, and legendary so maybe we should take a crack at it now. What do you guys say? Maybe we should mess around with the RD requirements in the sandbox? --Spartan 21:37, 18 October 2006 (EDT)
I don't have any problem with getting a head start on the "final" look/feel of the species page. I think we could make a second template, as to not break the existing species pages, and redesign one of the species pages to try out the new format. Once the game comes out, and we have a proper understanding of the information, we can finalize the layout, and either:
- let the second template become the final one, convert/migrate other species pages (more relaxed pace as we slowly gain access to the Encyclopedia's species info, and discover the secrets for the rare ones), and then "retire" this template once everything is switched over, or
- update this template to match the second one we've been experimenting with, and promptly edit all the species pages (although most of the info will be blank until we get residents of that species).
Sounds good, might I suggest the Whirlm for the test species? It is a simple pinata, we know it's RD(if you've been wondering, this is my abbrevation for romance dance) requirments and we know that it is a very common pinata. I also think that we should consider each pinata's base value. This also supports the Whirlm because we know that the base value is 100. I don't want these boxes to look clustered though so as much as I'm eager to start this I believe that who ever designs these should take some time in doing such. Normally, I think Jim should do this but since he can only pop in once or twice a day maybe we should wait of Feral and I(mostly Feral) should do what we think is best?

One more comment while I'm at it... maybe it we should look into the "provides" part of the infobox? We don't know of any pinatas that provide aside from the Moozipan and Buzzlegum and we don't have much proof that all pinatas provide something. --Spartan 01:23, 19 October 2006 (EDT)
I don't mind helping with it. Let's wait for Jim to chime in. --FeralKitty 01:49, 19 October 2006 (EDT)
I think all of this sounds great... Go ahead and get started on it if you'd like, but I won't really be able to provide much direct input until next week. It sounds like you have the right direction in mind. --Jimmcq 03:07, 19 October 2006 (EDT)
Pinata Descriptions
Can I cut and paste the pinata descriptions from the VP web site into our species pages? Are they copyrighted? --Spartan 18:21, 22 October 2006 (EDT)
Yes, they are. The fine print all the way at the bottom of the page says "Copyright 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved." Even if we asked and obtained permission to use them, I'd personally feel better if what we used was in our own words. I wouldn't want other visitors to see it, and get the impression that we infringed the copyright. No pressure to write them, though. Any of us here could chip in and write a few bios, once we got the game, and formed our own impressions of a species. --FeralKitty 18:44, 22 October 2006 (EDT)
Alright, I guess it was a good idea to make sure. I wouldn't mind paraphrasing them, but then again it still may be a better idea to wait and make stuff up our selves.
