Hey xenocidic, I'm glad to see you poking around here. I'd love to hear any of your opinions and suggestions for cleaning up and organizing our content better. --Jimmcq 21:38, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi xenocidic, nice to see you here :) --FeralKitty 21:57, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the welcome and the rights. admining on en.wiki keeps me busy, but I poked around a little bit the other day. I need to do some more digging to see how we can improve. I also heard the demo should be out any day now. I'm stoked! =) –xenocidic (talk) 22:39, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm talking with Jim about how to bring you into our site conventions discussion. We mostly dialog off the wiki, since it's primarily been the two of us making changes, so there aren't many talk pages here that reflect current thoughts. There is some merit to having discussions here, so they're available to the community as a whole, allowing others contribute suggestions or options. --FeralKitty 02:36, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, that would help. Maybe develop a Help:Manual of style or something. –xenocidic (talk) 02:40, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- There's an old style guide that's low on my list of priorities. By the way, do you have a forum account? I wanted to share some template issues with you. --FeralKitty 03:24, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Tab links for testing
- Template:Link (vp)
- Template:Link (vp2)
- Template:Link (vp2-jff)
- Template:Link (pocket paradise)
- Template:Link (tv show)
- To thingg!
Hey dude... Thanks for helping. anwyays, see the below thread that's been copied here. what we're trying to do is link directly to tabs (i.e. the tab links above) but still have it bold the page that you're on in the navbox. Any brights ideas? i created {{link}} because {{urlencode: didn't seem to help with plain internal links with#tab=because of the equals sign that gets mangled in the linking.. i.e. Arocknid#tab=TiP_-_Standard (piped to simply Arocknid) would be ideal, but see what happens to the equals sign? –xenocidic (talk) 16:15, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- refactored convo for backstory
also ,i suppose there's no way to have an internal wikilink preload the proper tab display ?, i.e. if I'm viewing TIP standard and I click a different species it may load into the "VP1" tab...it would be nice if it automagically loaded the VIP-standard tab. -xenocidic (forum msg)
Yeah, you noticed that too. I found it annoying to have to tab back to the right game. It's not possible with an internal wikilink as the parser mangles the =. It has to be written as a fullurl, which we could do, and just suppress the external link icon. Would be a nice thing to fix if we had time. Do fullurls break the "bold ... if you're viewing that article" feature? I'd hate to lose that. -feralkitty (forum msg)
{{link}} now works, unfortunately the bold of the page you're on seems to break. (Test it out on the first two species of Template:Species-TroubleInParadise-Standard) I think it's an unfortunate tradeoff for the convenience of linking to tabs. –xenocidic (talk) 15:06, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- We'd be trading one annoyance for another annoyance. I know I definitely utilize bold to see where I am, without having to glance elsewhere. There's no solution that lets both work? --FeralKitty (talk) 15:22, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- vs clear
I would appreciate it if we would clear floats in a consistent manner within articles. It seems a bit absurd to see
- {{-}}</div></div>
in your tabbed articles, when 99% of the other articles do it via {{clear}}, as you know.
If there's a "better" way to do something, let's discuss it, by all means, and then improve existing templates in use, instead of introducing multiple alternate templates/markup to do almost the same thing. We really don't need to maintain two sets of code and two sets of markup. (I'm aware of the inline vs. block difference.)
'Four characters less to type' does not justify its existence. I'm going to (spend my time to) clean up the few articles that use {{-}} and then remove it from the template namespace. --FeralKitty (talk) 02:13, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
