Introduction

Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise for the Nintendo DS was officially announced at the 2007 Comic-Con in San Diego on July 29, 2007. It was released on September 8, 2008.

"A Kameo or a Viva Pinata on a Nintendo DS makes a lot of sense in a lot of ways from a franchise perspective," Shane Kim, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft Game Studios, told 1UP at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas during February 2007.

The game features all of the species from the Classic title along with 7 new species, an expanded selection of tools, new game modes such as Sandbox and Episodes, and the ability to send pinatas via local WiFi.

Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise is published by THQ.

  • Customization: design a beautiful, welcoming garden environment to attract piñatas
  • Collecting: complete the Piñata Pyramid with over 60 piñatas to collect, including 7 brand-new species
  • Caretaking: ensure the happiness of your residents by tending to their needs
  • Missions: complete 10 missions for your favorite characters from the TV series
  • Multiplayer: transfer items, any piñata, accessory or object from your garden to a friend's garden

Introduction

Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise, the sequel to Viva Piñata: Classic, was released on September 2, 2008 in North and Latin America and September 5, 2008 in Europe and the United Kingdom. A demo is available for download through Xbox Live.

Viva Pinata: Trouble In Paradise is a brand new adventure where players will once again visit the thrilling world of Piñata Island. However this time around there are more problems than ever! Professor Pester and his gang of Ruffians have destroyed Piñata Central's database and have put the world's supply of delicious candy-filled piñatas at stake. Now it is up to player to establish a garden and rebuild the database. It is up to you to save Pinata Island!

Here are some of the new features that Trouble In Paradise includes:

  • 28 new species
  • New desert and arctic terrain and pinatas
  • Toys and trains for your pinata to interact with. You can also teach pinatas to perform tricks
  • New camera tool allows you to take pictures in your gardens and upload photos to VivaPinata.com
  • Just for Fun casual mode: no Ruffians, no sours, no weeds, infinite chocolate coins... but doesn't have access to some of the more exotic pinata species
  • Couch Social local co-op: second player has access to all tools, actions and activities, and also can collect "magic" to spend on tinkering items, healing a sick piñata or filling a pinata's candiosity meter
  • Pinata Vision uses printed cards with a unique barcode that can be scanned via the Xbox Live Vision camera

Tip of the day:
The condition for receiving a Master Romancer award is having seven pinata of a species resident in the garden at the same time. This could be done by romancing 2 pinatas 5 times, but romancing is not a requirement.

MediaWiki.org uses this in their documentation (e.g., Installation guide, technical guide).

Jump-to navigation helps users travel from one article to other related articles. The navigation would vary, depending on the topic, and some articles might not have jump-to navigation. We already use it (in a see-also format) in a few places (e.g. Category:Species).

In a sense, the navigation brings the "pages in the category" details (e.g., Category:Trouble in Paradise with minor omissions) to each page.

Considerations

  • Consider using (existing see-also format or jump-to) navigation on more articles, to help visitors easily get to other related articles.
  • Consider switching from a see-also text format to a more visual layout, to make the navigation stand out, and be distinct from the article.
    • Con: Jump-to tables and tabs might visually conflict.
    • Con: More likely to stretch the screen at low resolutions.
    • Con: Jump-to can't clearly spell out (as catmore currently does) that there is a category article with more information:
For more information, see Species.

Who is Professor Pester? The Ruffians? Classic Trouble in Paradise Pocket Paradise

Professor Pester is the leader of a gang of Ruffians. As you level up, Ruffians (and eventually Professor Pester himself) will come into the garden and cause trouble, such as by smashing garden items.

Classic Interesting details about how Professor Pester came to be, can be discovered by reading the Story chapters in the Journal.

Classic Trouble in Paradise If you're quick, you can run over to them as they enter, and bribe them with chocolate coins to leave your garden. If you wait too long, however, there's not much you can do to get them to leave. Ruffians can be bribed with 100 coins (200 coins for Trouble in Paradise), and Pester can be bribed for 500 coins.

Classic Pocket Paradise At level 30 (level 6 for Pocket Paradise), you can purchase a Captain's Cutlass garden decoration from Ivor Bargain which will keep Professor Pester and his Ruffians away for good.

Trouble in Paradise In Trouble in Paradise, only the Ruffians will be kept out by the Captain's Cutlass. There are numerous ways to deal with Pester, though:

Pocket Paradise In Pocket Paradise, a Barkbark (with a collar) can chase Ruffians (and sours) out of your garden. Selecting the Barkbark will display a menu icon that allows you to control if your Barkbark is on guard duty.

Commonly asked questions
I've spent days and days trying to get a Chippo to be a resident with no luck. Is this a glitch? Classic Trouble in Paradise

Like the Elephanilla (see answer), this is another pinata that takes time to reside. As with any pinata that needs multiple visits, it's important to keep in mind that you probably won't get the exact same Chippopotamus, the next time a wild one visits your garden.

Always make sure to maintain well more than 14 (9 for Trouble in Paradise) watercress or water lilies or bullrush in the garden, and replant the ones it eats. If its Visit requirements are no longer met, it will leave the garden early, drawing out the number of visits needed.

If you've got a visitor that only needs to meet one or two more requirements, try not to distract it with other items that it no longer is required to eat. One tip is to whack the plants that a particular visitor needs to eat, and move the flower heads near where he visits/eats, to help speed things along. This way, it will hopefully eat more of what it needs to eat, instead of randomly devouring whatever it's fond of.

Ultimately, patience is the key, while you pay attention to its needs, and keep your garden well-planted. (Either that, or you could pay someone off to ship you one.) View thread

(I don't think it looks that good to try to inline these icons within answers, e.g., ... than 14 (Trouble in Paradise 9 for Trouble in Paradise) watercress, so I suggest we only lead paragraphs with the icon.)
