Yes, I know the wording is inconsistent, but that's exactly how it is in the game. Color variants include yellow, blue, and (I think) green. --Jimmcq

When you feed a Buttercup to a "White Flutterscotch" it becomes a species named "Yellow Flutterscotch" which is a little strange because its more like an evolve than a standard variant... others don't seem to behave this way. --Jimmcq 12:21, 11 November 2006 (EST)

Woah, there's a lot of different colours for the flutterscotch. Treated differently than all the other species? -- Ramen 14:11, 11 November 2006 (EST)

The Flutterscotches are treated differently than the other pinata. Each 'variant' is actually an evolution into a different species. Look in the encyclopedia; the variant fields for the White Flutterscotch are each X'd out and each color you've discovered will have its own entry in the species list. Also, I've attracted three White Flutterscotches into my bug garden by changing the color of each one as it becomes a resident. I think most pinatas stop coming once you have two of the same species. --Pure

I hear what you're saying, and it's a very good piece of information, to find out how the Encyclopedia actually treats them. The big concern though about treating them as species on the wiki, would be in maintaining 9 almost identical species pages, whenever a bit of information needs to get added or changed. I could see them getting out of sync very easily, which would confuse people, as to which page is accurate. Also, it's convenient for people to just come to one page to see the colors listed in the variant table, even though they're evolved species. --FeralKitty 18:45, 12 November 2006 (EST)

Yeah, I think we need to keep these all on one page and treat them like variants even though technically speaking they aren't. --Jimmcq 19:05, 12 November 2006 (EST)

I think we should change the wiki from "White Flutterscotch" to just "Flutterscotch". --Misral93

It used to be "Flutterscotch", but was moved to "White Flutterscotch" (proper species/Encyclopedia name) because there is no species named "Flutterscotch". There's a link from "Flutterscotch" to this page, so it can be found, either way. --FeralKitty 20:43, 12 November 2006 (EST)

Should there be pages for all the variants/species of Flutterscotches that just redirect to this page? It sort of makes sense considering Flutterscotches are a special case. It might help the folks that search for a specific Flutterscotch species, expecting to be taken directly to a page. -Nokboy 00:02, 17 January 2007 (EST)

I think it is useful to have a single page for all flutterscotches. But I think it is useful to use the same wording used in the encyclopedia/player awards to make clear that we are talking about EVOLVE requirements, not variant requirements. Otherwise, we're just confusing the very people who come here for information.
This content could be moved back to the "Flutterscotch" page, and we could have pages for each species of flutterscotch, all linking back to this page, thus solving the search problem. The "Variant Requirements" section could become "White Flutterscotch Evolve Requirements", since none of the other flutterscotches evolve, and none of the flutterscotch species have variant requirements. --celestial nav 14:56, 21 February 2007 (EST)

Technically it isn't a species evolution (even though it is similar to one). It is a special case, and I think it would be a mistake to maintain 10 different Flutterscotch pages. --Jimmcq 16:21, 21 February 2007 (EST)

I propose this change to the flutterscotch page. In the event that the community opposes using the term "evolution" to describe evolution, I will be happy to revert the change. --celestial nav 23:13, 21 February 2007 (EST)

Why I think the wiki should call it evolution:

  • The encyclopedia says it is evolution -- for White Flutterscotch, evolve requirements A through I are listed in the encyclopedia.
  • The player awards book shows that variations of White flutterscotch are not possible.
  • The encyclopedia has a species page and the player awards book a separate line for each fluttescotch species.
  • When the flutterscotch changes, the change is like evolution
    • There is a bright flash
    • The shape of the pinata changes, not just the color
    • The name of any unnamed pinata is changed to the name of a new species (e.g. from "White Flutterscotch 23" to "Orange Flutterscotch 1")
    • During evolution, the from-the-wild flutterscotch changes its blank tag for the player's tag.
  • The flutterscotches behave like separate, if very similar, species -- they will not romance each other.

What is unusual about the flutterscotch genus (but which does not make them all one species)

  • All species in this genus can share one flutterscotch house.
  • All flutterscotch eggs contain White flutterscotches.

I agree that it is useful to stick with one flutterscotch page, since only the White can appear, visit, become a resident, or evolve, and all flutterscotch species have the same romance requirements. The page can make clear that the flutterscotch genus (containing species f. White, f. Red, f. Orange, etc) is a special case. Since the game says f. White evolves into other flutterscotch species, I think the wiki page should say that this is evolution, not variation --celestial nav 22:31, 21 February 2007 (EST)

Flutterscotches don't pass the evolve litmus test, since they don't count towards unlocking the Evolver achievements. ;) --FeralKitty 09:49, 22 February 2007 (EST)

Wow. That's weird. Even though the encyclopedia says they are evolving! How did you figure that out? --celestial nav 10:17, 22 February 2007 (EST)
