Vanishing Gem

I really need help. I put 9,999 coins in the wishing well, the amber gem came out, I picked it up, and was carrying it to the garden store. On the way there, my cursor passed through an oak tree, and the gem was suddenley gone. I proceeded to destroy the tree in order to find it, but it wasn't there. I looked all around the garden, it wasn't there. I sold several buildings, it wasn't underneath them. I even tried selling my larger pinatas in an act of desperation.
