The only Piñata that still looks sinister after its Sour incarnation is tamed. Despite the shifty appearance and warty diet, tame Crowlas really are reformed characters, even helping to defend sick pinata.
In Game Discription: When you see the Crowla, think less "dark, sinister, grave robber" and think more "garbage collecter." It may stop that shiver tickling your spine.

- Directing a tamed Crowla to Dastardos will momentarily distract him (and unlock an achievement).
Sour version
Sour Crowlas are birds who rarely get more than a few feet off the ground when they fly. Some blame their scrawny wings for their lack of altitude, but the real reason has to do with their special diet. These sours don’t bother with bite-size snacks like fruits or flowers. No, the only thing that satisfies their Sour Piñata-sized appetites is, well, sick Piñatas, and it’s hard to soar like an Eaglair when you’re stuffed full of Piñata stuffing. Imagine the indigestion!
In Game Discription: Like a bear trap mixed with a bird, thew Sour Crowla looks terrifying. I'm not going to tell you that a Sour Crowla is just misunderstand, because it gives me nightmares, but only when I eat too much cheese before I go to bed.

While a temporary fix is to feed them Happy candy, the real issue has to do with whether they like your garden or not. Like any other species, Crowlas like to have their Appear and Visit requirements met, to remain happy in a garden. Once you have four Lickatoads in your garden, they should stop getting sad and leaving.
In general, once you've tamed a sour, ask yourself "Does my garden have what it needs to attract a tame one from the wild?" If not, the one you've just tamed won't stay long, because the garden's not attractive to them. View thread
