How to unlock things help

I finally got Viva Pinta to work on my computer, and so far I have the Shovel, Grass, and Willy unlocked. I'm wondering how to get the Watering can and go to the shops. I've been playing for an hour and I think i'm doing something wrong. Please tell me if you know anything.

To unlock the watering can and shops you have to increase your Gardening Level. The higher your level, the more nifty items and options will become available. There are several ways to gain experience points early on, including -

Becoming a Master Romancer. If you have 7 of the same species in your garden at once, you'll recieve a Master Romancer Award. You can earn one reward for each species of pinata.

Growing Plants. Every time you successfuly grow a plant or flower for the first time, you'll earn experience points.

Discovering Variants. If you discover a new variant, (a pinata that is a different color than usual), you'll earn experience points.

There are many other ways to earn experience points and rewards, however it's more fun if you figure them out yourself. :)
