Chocolate sniffer?

What's with this shovel upgrade? It says on the wiki that it detects chocolate coins, but I can't figure out how it does it. I moved my shovel all around the garden and nothing seems to happen, except every now and then the sniffer bends backwards. When I dig in that spot nothing happens. Am I missing something? or what am I doing wrong?

(ps. I tried to do a search, but it didn't turn up any results for 'chocolate sniffer', or 'chotcolatesniffer, or 'sniffer'.)

You have to listen for a beeping noise. It is like a metal detector, except for chocolate coins and candy.

Yeah and when your hear the beeeping noise go around until its loudest and then dig.

TO put it simply, have you ever heard a Metal Detector catch metal?
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!
That means DIG DIG DIG! You'll either get some lame candy or a ton of coins. MAke sure you have a Lantern'o loot before diggin up coins. It helps alot!
