Many years before I knew her, my wife got very sick and had to spend quite a bit of time in the hospital. She was only twelve years old, and it was a very scary time for her. The only comforting thing was that they had a game room where the hospitalized children could play. To this day she still speaks fondly of the Centipede and Tempest arcade machines they had.
Child's Play (http://www.childsplaycharity.org/) is a game industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games in a network of over 40 hospitals worldwide. In four short years, you as a community have answered the call and come together to raise millions of dollars.
I have supported the Child's Play charity in the past, and again this year I will personally be donating cash and buying copies of Viva Pinata for the Children's Hospital Oakland (which is where my wife was). I hope that all of you will join in to support this noble cause. Please support the Child's Play charity.

A very noble cause, in my opinion. I am also very chuffed to see that they are also supporting a UK hospital this year to which I also will be contributing.

Jenn and I are very touched by what Child's Play is doing. We'll support how ever we can. It's even better that we have a CP hospital within an hour of us. (Gainesville).
I got a call into the director of that program, to see if shes interested in having my media group do a commercial created for the cause.

I have been in contact with Kristin Lindsay, the gal who is running this whole thing.
Jenn and I have decided instead of waisting $$$ on wedding gifts for all 150 of our guests, we will be donating Viva Pinata games to the hospitals who have the game on their wish list.
Since I work at a GameStop 1 day every other weekend, I am going to see if I can get them to donate the games at cost or at a discount.
Hope this helps Jim.:D

Not only did we break the million dollar mark, but we decimated it with our new total of $1,135,000! This significant achievement made this holiday season a happier, brighter one in our fifty partner hospitals. To everyone who has contributed to this amazing milestone, thank you!
The hospital wish lists are still online, and some have seen new items added. While we try to get lots of new games and more to the children in time for the holidays, the hospitals have a need for equipment year-round. Likewise, we will continue to accept donations through Amazon, PayPal and the mail until next year’s fundraiser kicks off.
Thank you to everyone that contributed!!

As it happens, I've only just picked a few things from the Alder Hey Children's Hospital wish list this last week and Amazon should be deliverying them anyday now.

Can I ask something?
Do they do this Child's Play thing in Australia?

http://www.childsplaycharity.org/ - It looks like they've got a couple of participating hospitals down-under.

That's good. Except there's not one near me.
I wish I could give them money.

Ah, but that's not really the point. The whole thing is about giving the kids something to play and do whilst they're in hospital. The pounds go further that way :)

It's time to be amazing again people. The Child's Play site (http://www.childsplaycharity.org/) is updated and open for business. You know the drill by this point. Select a hospital from the map and then choose a toy for them.

An important point to mention again: it's not just the US that can take part here. Egypt, Canada, Austrailia, New Zealand and the UK are also participating.

I think that is a very good cause, I donate at the St Jude Children's Research Hospital. Good luck of getting more money! Is there still a chance to donate to this cause still?

Best to have a read of their site: http://www.childsplaycharity.org/
While Child’s Play collects donations year round, we wind down our toy drive component at this time of year. We’ll be making occasional updates throughout the year to bring you news about projects that we’ve been working on, and events that will be happening year round. If you have a fund raising event that you’d like added to our off-season calendar, please email klindsay@penny-arcade.com (klindsay@penny-arcade.com) for inclusion. Child’s Play merchandise, including the Child’s Play Charity CD, will be available for purchase on our Activism page (http://www.childsplaycharity.org/activism.php) while quantities last.

It's that time of year again. The Child's Play charity (http://www.childsplaycharity.org/) is back again supporting even more hospitals this year.
The original post (http://www.childsplaycharity.org/) of this thread explains more about Child's Play and what they hope to achieve. They really could use your help.

From ChildsPlayCharity.org (http://www.childsplaycharity.org/):
It’s been another incredible year for Child’s Play, and we’re excited to announce the 2009 final total at $1,780,870.40. Sincere thanks go out to all of our donors and sponsors, who made this record-breaking year possible. Child’s Play remains a proud grassroots gamer charity, drawing support from video gamers and the video games industry. When gamers give back, it makes a big difference!

Almost $2 million?! That's incredible! It just goes to show how much gamers really do care. :)

I'm glad to see this still going strong. I hope to be able to give back a little something in the near future as well... ;)
