It is announced that you can play Nintendo WiFi Connection on Viva Pinata for DS. Since I have it when I get Viva Pinata, I'm going to try it out.

I guess as soon as the release date of VP DS shows up, we better gather ourselves Friend Codes from here, don't we? HAHA!!:D

Yea, did they find out if it connects with live also yet?I very much doubt it. Xbox Live and Nintendo's Wi-Fi are two completely seperate and closed systems and it would be like try to run a petrol car on diesel.

Wasn't there a press release about how they're going to try to intergrate WFC and XBL?

No, there have been no announcements along those lines... and I very strongly doubt that there ever will be

Think of it like running a PS3 game on your Xbox 360; that's about how likely it is that you could get it working.

Unfortunately this is a nasty rumour that someone started and it seems to have caught hold. The problem here is not so much the willing to make it happen but it's something we just couldn't do even if we wanted to as the two networks are so closed for security reasons that we would seriously comprimise both if this were to work.

Even thought it's a nintendo handheld, is there a slight possibility that there aren't friend codes? Even just a little?

I'm buying it so once it's out I will make a thread for posting your FC's.

Just saying

What are you saying?

For Assassin's Creed you need to run the Xbox 360 version on an Xbox 360, and the PS3 version on a PS3. You cannot run the PS3 version on an Xbox 360 and that is what BIGsheep is saying.

Chekt
08-06-2007, 10:27 PM
OOOOoooooo, assassin's creed looks good. And I bet someone could make an xbox 360 run ps3 games. Exept it would be very hard. and expensive. and take a long time. and it's not really likely that someone would do that.

What are you saying?.
I was "just saying" that, while you may not be able to play the ps3 versiion on an xbox 360, you can remake the game on 360, so that in a way, it's possible to run a ps3 game on the xbox.

Call me crazy and/or wise if you wish. :p

No, they run on different software. Can you prove it? I doubt it. Just because it is the same game data, doesn't mean that they will be compatible.

Spartans right, let's get back on the topic...

Hmm...From what BIG says about WiFi to XBox Live a no-go, I wasn't much surprised...Saying it will work, however, would be surprising, considering how each system works...

In other words, if BIG says otherwise, I would definitely like to know how that would happen...

Give me an unlimited budget with unlimited engineers and unlimited time and I'll get it to work for you. Although I may be scraping some of that unlimited budget into an off-shore account so please don't check the books too thoroughly.

Will you be able to have downloadable content through WFC, maybe through your wii and use wii points to buy the stuff (or make it free, I don't mind ;) ). Maybe you could have a storage thing were the GBA game is supposed to be, like what I think they did for the opera internet browser on the DS.

If you visit the http://www.rareware.com site and re-read the VPDS news message, the phrase "Wifi" now reads "Wireless".

I believe it to be prudent to interpret this as meaning there is no Nintendo WFC support, but there will be wireless support.

As stated in the other thread, thoughts about WFC / live compatibility are plain dumb:D

You really live in Twycross? Anyway,

I think Jimmcq confirmed that it WOULD be in it, if I'm not much mistaken? Ah well, no probs, I'm not getting DS anymore :D

BIGsheep

No one actually lives in Twycross. There's us, a zoo, a pub and a tractor shop... unless he's kipping in a layby.

Anyway, do you have the link to Jim's confirmation? The problem is that WiFi isn't a Nintendo specific term and so you can see why people may jump on it when used in certain terms.

The only thing I did was quote what was on the Rare site.

I think what we're looking for is clarification on whether you can only trade with nearby people using a direct (DS to DS) connection, or if you can also trade with distant people from around the world as well.

So basically there might not be an infrastructure kind of thing but there will be ad-hoc?

For the record, it says "DS wireless connectivity ". That could apply to either the Wi-Fi connection and/or DS-to-DS connection.

What purpose would there be in not including Wi-Fi? That would just be dumb.

Time constraints for one. Such as Bottles' Revenge not making the final cut into Banjo-Tooie because Rare didn't have time to debug it. At least that was the reason given in Scribes. But of course, Mr. Errrm, BigSheep, and Rashberry will refrain from mentioning that ;)

I'm not a programmer, so I can't really move along into the technicalities of the various other reasons as to why it could lack in the Wi-Fi department. So I'll just stick to the probable 'time constraint' notion.

Adding Wi-Fi would only introduce the dreaded 'Friend Code' System :P
Unless Rare worked around that...

Medal of Honor heroes 2 on the wii uses EA Nation instead of friend codes.

That's awsome that it will have Wi-Fi.
I really wasn't concerned about it connecting to Xbox 360. I just think it's great that it will be for DS, allowing us to carry our pinatas around everywhere! I mean, at least it has Wi-Fi so we can still trade with people who have this for DS. When it comes out, a "Post your friend code," thread should be made. =)

As confirmed by Rare in their Viva Pinata Tepid Seat yesterday, Viva Pinata DS will NOT support Wi-Fi. You'll only be able to trade your pinatas via local wireless with a friend.

The question and answer from the Tepid Seat:

Question: Hi Piņata team, first of all I don't have an Xbox 360 yet (damn those "make your own money" rules at home) so I'm anxious about your DS game. Lots of people play Animal Crossing and stuff like that, so tell me what are you guys going to do to get people to understand this game is not going to be some crappy Tamagotchi, but a fun Rare game? And what's WiFi going to offer? And finally how 'bout a li'l red bird that mouths off? Well good luck with that and can't wait.
LeopoldDa3rd/Sonic22

Answer: Gary: Hopefully as more people get to and play see Viva Piņata they will be able to see for themselves that the game is really fun and has a lot of depth to it. We are not supporting WiFi as the game doesn't really need it. You will be able to trade wirelessly with your mates though.

aww boo, el boo, no me gusta nada. Now I am for sure not getting this. Just like Dragon Quest Monsters : Joker the only way for wi-fi is by being next to someone with a ds and the same game. 1/2 a star for this game....For Viva Pinata ds....but DQMJ owns without it

Who the hell is "gary" (his name doesn't deserve capitilization) to say that VP ds doesn't need wi-fi. Nobody act all good boy and side with him because we all know it would be BETTER with global Wi-Fi

BIGsheep

Gary (I'm going to return his captial letter) is one designers on the VP DS team and I'm sure they didn't take any decision lightly regarding the development on Viva Piņata on the handheld platform.

Having never developed for the DS I can't really comment on the situation properly but I know that our Xbox trading requires a stand alone server to handle all your trading - who's to say if that is even possible on the DS for third-party developers?

^ Ah but some digimon game has global breeding through wi-fi although there has never been a digimon game for the ds.

To be quite frank, I don't care that you won't be able to connect to other DS' because I've never traded pinatas or items anyway (my 360 isn't conected to Xbox Live).
