I would love to hear how many of you struggled, or not, with the data transfer and formatting (via the cable supplied with the Elite) of your existing 360 console hard drive and what Microsoft were able to do to help, or not, those who encountered corruption and/or loss of files?
I ask only because I am in the position where transference remains the lesser of two evils, if not by the most comfortable of margins, and your tales of hardware heroics, or not, might make my decision clearer. Thank you.

I bought an Elite the day it came out and had to wait a week for that transfer cable. It took over 4 hours of transferring for 10 gig worth of stuff over.
I didnt loose any information though, but i have had friends who have. They stopped the transfer midway because they though tit was frozen.
Since you can only use the cable once, your pretty much out of luck. Your old HD has been wiped clean.:(

We Brits are expecting the console on the 24th of this month and, like yourself it seems, will likely have to send away for the cable (with the Xbox helpline staff mysteriously uninformed with regards European pack contents  ).

As frightening as this sounds, I had heard tell of similar stories, the suggestion that the worst problems might be avoided through excess patience (I survived the wait for the Halo 3 beta to download after all) is welcomingly positive. Cheers.
