View Full Version : I believe that Rare made the right decision putting Viva Piņata on the DS.

Instead of waiting until Nintendo's next handheld.

Because as Errrm stated:

Basically after we moved Viva Pinata over from PDA/Mobile Phones we first moved it on to the first Xbox. The system didn't have enough power to be able to render the fur effect on all the animals so one of the plans was to have the pinata effect on just 1 animal... this was obviously less than ideal but when we moved to the Xbox 360 we could do lots more with the graphics and so we could put the fur effect on all the animals.

If Rare decided to do Viva Piņata on Nintendo's next handheld, chances are, it would've been in full 3D, and obvious would lack the power to do what Rare wanted with the game visually.

But on the DS, since it has graphical limitations, Rare decided to make the graphics prerendered but with the Piņatas in full 3D and have the game be viewed from a isometric perspective, so you can hardly notice the missing details such as the lack of "Piņata fur", if Rare used this very method on Nintendo's next handheld, chances are, it wouldn't look that much better at all.

Rare was VERY smart to do with this method and put the game on the DS. :D

Who else feels the same?

Instead of waiting until Nintendo's next handheld.

What 'next handheld' would that be? It certainly makes more sense to release a game for something that exists than something that doesn't. :p

It's a tad difficult to explain, but if you could've chosen before the game was actually know, for Rare to make Viva Piņata for a Nintendo handheld, would you choose the DS, or wait a year or so for Rare to make it on Nintendo's next handheld which will be more powerful for an even better experience, most likely in visuals?

I would've chosen to wait, but seeing how Rare actually pulled off the game on the DS, changed my mind completely, and made me prefer the game on the DS, because it works so damn well! :p

I'll choose now before later. They can put a sequel on the next handheld.

Well we have to give our handheld team something to do :)

I think anyone who has played VP will agree that the gameplay is very suited to the interaction that the DS can offer. After the somewhat clunky nature of the menus and shops (by comparison), the DS allows us to smooth all this out with the tap of a stylus, not to mention how easy it is to move the cursor/packets/spade around.

Knowing Nintendo, I think it may have been a risk waiting for their next handheld. Afterall, who knows how many screens or what input devices will be on that.

I don't think Nintendo are likely to release another version of the DS for quite some time, they have a user base of 40m and basically have no'good' competition I don't think it makes any sense for them to make a new handheld console at the moment.

I agree, I think Nintendo will keep the DS around for a while. They sold SOOO many. Theres so much money to be made from this thing!! I remember seeing a Avatar somewhere that the DS was printing money, so close to reality. ;)

Although I've yet to hear about the Nintendo QS (Quad Screen) and it's amazing breath screen (Your breath is utilized in ways nobody can imagine), I think it was very intelligent. After all, seeing how popular the 360 version was, why not make a version on a console that has a potential 40million players?

Of course it was a good idea to put viva pinata on the DS, silly.

And it will probably be a good idea to put it on the DS 2, too

I just think that it is a good move in general, to put it on any Nintendo handheld. It'll get VP to the kind of audenice it needs. ;)

The audenice it needs? Did you just say that Nintendo is a kiddy console, and that Viva Pinata would do well because it looks like a kiddy game? http://media.ign.com/boardfaces/12.gif You don't know how angry I am right now. ;)

Look Chekt, I think Spartan is aiming at something else besides categorizing it as a 'Kiddy' entertainment... There are alot more reasons besides/with that...It's not a good idea to jump at conclusions for that type...

Uh...Right? HAHA!!:D

I think we all know the answer really.

Um, how do I explain this? Yes? Well kind of. You see that despite the fact that anyone can play VP and anyone can play Nintendo, both VP and Nintendo target a younger audience. Are they considered "kiddy"? That is your opinion.

Sorry, I just go into nintendo fanboy mode when ever someone mentions something that would even just imply that it's a kiddy console.

I like to the of Nintendo DS and Wii as a Family console where it is for all ages. It is aiming for young people, look at the N64, Conker was like the only M game and there aren't many on the GC, Wii, and DS.

Manhunt 2 is coming out soon! woo!
And the DS is a better console to have Viva Pinata on because I own one!

Back when Viva Pinata first came out, I was actually wondering how the game would look and act on the DS. Seriously...

My friends will be so glad to hear about the DS game. Most of them don't have a Xbox360 and one of them doesn't have the right thing to play it on his computer. But he has a DS.

I didn't even know that it was coming out on DS. Though I don't think it'll look very good with a small screen on the DS. If it was for Gameboy, that would be worse.

Chekt, I totally agree. Do any of you remember when the DS first came out and there was Super Mario 64 DS, which had 3D worlds and characters? It wasn't a sidescroller, thats for sure. I don't see why they just dont use those kind of graphics. They used them when it came out, why not now? I sure hope there aren't any glitches in the game. Or at least not as many.
