While I'd love for this to be true, this quote has been grossly taken out of context.
"We're pleased with the overall support that it's got and there's more to come within that franchise,"
"We'd obviously like more sales, but we were happy with the game and critically it's gone down very well."
That just means that they will be continuing the franchise, which doesn't mean a sequel. It could mean VP on DS or VPR or more DLC.
I hate when people read things that aren't there.
I am not trying to flame you, Ghost. I heart Ghost. I just think that this guy who posted this is reading something that isn't there.

Quote: "Rare has told GamesIndustry.biz that consumers can expect more Viva Piņata in the future - with the developer promising to support the Xbox 360 franchise for at least another two or three years."
That support could take many forms: DLC for the current game, a sequel as you mentioned, or entirely new game in the franchise (maybe that Kart Racing game, or a Party game, or something else entirely).

That's exactly why I posted the original source article. I actually find it quite interesting to see how chinese whispers work on the internet.
GhostGundam is in San Fransisco, he should be hot-footing it down to GDC for his own interview with Lee :)

You must have been writing that while I was writing my post.
Great minds think a like. :D

Hmmm, downloadable content 3 years from now? I smell a sequel. You can only deny it for so long Rashberry. Only for so long... :P [/u][/i]

You're right IrisKandi, I was.
I also agree with Spartan... they'll definitely be done with DLC for the current game within a year from now, and hopefully we'll have an entirely new VP game by then... they gotta keep the momentum going if they want the tv show and merchandise to be popular.

I'd like them to take a little longer than that to perfect the sequel and make it even better than the first! :D Hopefully they'll come out with tons of DLC though. I'm practically pulling my hair out waiting for the first set of new DLC to come! I can't wait any longer! :P

I have plenty of other things to do this summer, but I wonder if one of them will be searching for clues on VP2. Right now I'm feeling a combo of anticipation, worry, and self-pity. I'll leave you to sort out what I mean

I'm guessing that what we may see next is not a sequel, but a different game in the Viva Pinata franchise... something that they may have already been working on for a while before the original game that we know and love was released.

I perfer it not be a racing game. Or a DS game. Or an RPG.

So you don't want racing or an RPG game. What do you want?
(FPS is NOT an option for a kid's game! :P)

Well maybe racing wouldn't be SO bad. But no DS or RPG. I'd like to see either another simulation like VP or an adventure game or a game were you basically explore Pinata Island. I guess an adventure or exploring game could have RPG elements to it but I just don't think an RPG would work. How would you have a combat system in a kids game?

How could you have animals eating each other in a kids game?
FeralKitty
03-08-2007, 03:01 AM
Well, they're just paper pinatas that get broken open, so I don't see them as animals eating each other. But each species already has their own attack and does a form of combat, to try to break each other open. I don't think it's that big a jump to an RPG-style combat.
I'd be pleased with a kart game or sim expansion. If it was an RPG, I'd play it and be happy too. But, since most of my favorites seem to be RPGs... I certainly wouldn't mind a different type of fun.

I would just be happy if we got some real DLC.
That's all I want.
Though VP on DS would be great. I want my pinatas on the go. :)

Not all of us have the money to waste on handhelds. :?
I just can't see why pinata's would fight. And I wouldn't like figthing sours or Ruffians. A kart game would get boring fast. I just want to see more of pinata island.

I have to admit, as much as I would love a kart game for Viva Pinata, it just wouldn't work right. Think of it, with all of the games on the 360, how much fun would a Pinata Kart be?
Those Kart games should be left to the classic N64, with Mario and Diddy Kong. A DS Kart might not be bad though.
And a Viva Pinata adventure game could be real cool. There are only 6 or 8 Sours in the current game, but there could obviously be a Sour version of every Pinata. Some sort of game where Pinatas have had eaten the black/red candy in the disguise of normal candy, and you must defeat and save them. And some other crazy plotline to go along with it, like Pester has taken all of the -Dos family and you have to rescue them. Although that sounds sort of Kameo-ish.

Nintendo has lost most of it's appeal to me. I might buy a Wii sometime in the future but lately I've lost interest in handhelds altogther.

I want another game liek VP except with more pinatas and all the great things that we've already talked about. Or a DS game. Or a game where you pick your species (Maybe a TV character, who knows) and you run around Pinata Island. And you can attack the sours that come your way or you can tame them. You could have an inventory (Like a backpack). In the backpack you could keep all sorts of items! And maybe you could get friends to follow you around and help you in battle! That would be AWESOME!

Quote from Shane Kim to IGN (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/771/771601p1.html): We have a lot more coming from that universe than just Viva Pinata 1. You have to give a title like this time. Once our install base reaches higher numbers and the price of the system is less of a deterrent, games like Viva Pinata will do fantastic sales numbers. We'll be doing things with Viva Pinata for a few more years. You'll see.

I think it will be cool to see a racing type game, although I don't know how it could work exactly.
It could include Banjo, Kazooie and Mumbo for starters though as there are signs of their existence in the game of Viva Pinata.
Also Rare never did get to release Donkey Kong Racing (somewhat of a sequel to Diddy Kong Racing where instead of using karts, hovercrafts and planes they rode around on ostriches, elephants, etc) due to Microsoft's acquiring them so I can't imagine that that game would have totally got cancelled.
Anyway being a long time Rare fan.. I have so been hanging to see whatever did come of Donkey Kong Racing, and whether it actually got renamed to Sabreman Stampede or now has something to do with Viva Pinata.

I would like to see VP evolve into something like the original Monster Rancher 1 and 2 games. it mixes both RPG and adventure together along w/ some of the same elements that VP all ready has like the breeding and such. if VP was more like monster rancher 1 or 2 w/ different species breeding and such it would be more open ended. if the makers of VP played some Monster rancher 1 and 2 and incorporated that into VP I would love the game even more.

I can't see much at the RARE site. It cannot detect that I've got Flash installed. It keeps telling me I need Flash 8 or higher installed. Can't be good for business.

You never know though! :) It could be cool and Rare could possibly be working on something of the sort. There's also Banjo's backpack, Bottle's glasses and Banjo and Kazooies likeness in some of the mountains (just like Mount Rushmore)
Didn't you hear about Diddy Kong Racing DS? (http://www.diddykongracing.com/)
Yes, but that's just a remake of Diddy Kong Racing with Banjo, Conker (and maybe a few others) taken out. It isn't the followup! :)

I just want more VP for the 360, either DLC or VP2. But, I'm happy knowing that BIGsheep has confirmed that they aren't just sitting on their bums at Rare.

I'm glad Rare haen't completley moved away from Viva Pinata. I would maybe like to see a Banjo style platformer based on the TV show myself though, a spin off in some respects. I wouldn't want an actual Viva Pinata sequel for a while, would be rushed and plus, Banjo hasn't had a new (proper) game for a good 7-8 years so I'd imagine Rare are focusing more on that for the moment
