2. STARSHIP TROOPERS By Robert A. Heinlein
I've never read Starship Troopers, but I do know one quote, one of my favourites:
"Anyone who clings to the historically untrue — and thoroughly immoral — doctrine that 'violence never settles anything' I would advise to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and of the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler could referee, and the jury might well be the Dodo, the Great Auk, and the Passenger Pigeon. Violence settled their fates quite nicely. Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms."
I'm a big fan of history (especially military history; no surprise, as I'm studying to become a professor of history), theology, politics, and philosophy.
The following books I particularly like and would recommend:
History:
1. Carnage and Culture: Landmark Battles in the Rise of Western Power by Victor Davis Hanson
2. A History of Warfare by John Keegan
3. Band of Brothers: E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne from Normandy to Hitler's Eagle's Nest by Stephen E. Ambrose
Politics:
1. America Alone: The End of the World as We Know It by Mark Steyn
Christianity/Theology/Philosophy:
1. Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis
2. The Abolition of Man by C. S. Lewis
3. Heretics by G.K. Chesterton
4. Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesterton
5. Think a Second Time by Dennis Prager
6. The Cube And the Cathedral by George Weigel
7. The Republic by Plato
8. The Inferno by Dante
Literature:
1. The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky
2. Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare
3. Macbeth by William Shakespeare.
3. Animal Farm by George Orwell
4. 1984 by George Orwell
Fantasy:
1. The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
2. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
3. The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien

The Viva Pinata official strategy guide is very well written. I always re-read guides (Rayman 4, Lego Star Wars 2 & Dragon Quest VIII still have a place on my shelf)
I guess I'm just a sucker for walkthroughs.

Yeah, I love literature like crazy...
I couldn't agree more. I just finished the third Maximum Ride installment, and it was great. I have Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows preordered, and I've got a party ready for opening day in at the movies on the eleventh. I have to admit, that no matter how much I liked Tithe, the second book kept me from reading Ironside. Is it good?
The only really good book off of the top of my head is King Dork. I love that book.

Ohh I'd totally give you a hug right now, but I can't, so... virtual hugs!
Maximum Ride's pretty amazing.
I bought the first book actually not too long ago, and was instantly hooked.
I've got the seventh HP book preordered as well, and I'm attending the party at my book store the night before it comes out.
(On the night the sixth book was released, I literally did not sleep for hours as I read it all in one sitting... good times; they're coming again soon.)
Tithe was good; I liked Valiant a lot too.
I haven't gotten a chance to read Ironside yet...
I bought it a while ago, but I need to reread Tithe beforehand because the last time I read it was years ago... xD
But that should be some time soon, so I hope to get back to you on that. [:

I LOVE Cirque Du Freak. It may not be dazzling in it's writing style, but it's fast paced, action-packed, and the plot is great.
Also, Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. A really great fantasy that reads like a comedic realistic-fiction meets sci-fi.
Also, JTHM.

I can respect that, there are things in life we all hate. Fourtunatly you do like reading or you wouldnt be on a forum. I think that is where the future lies. Blogs, forums, and things of that nature. There will be a point in the future I feel where there are no more paper books, there will always be stories. Anyways sorry to ramble on, but I just wanted to say I respect and understand your opinion.

Hmm...letsee...
I've gotten into reading even more since I've started writing. :D
Right now I'm just adoring Inkheart. I picked it up a few years ago and I keep re-reading it over and over again now. The series is really good, but I love the first one the best and I can't wait for the movie even though it looks like they're ruining the book. Like the did with a favorite series of mine, "The Dark is Rising" by Susan Cooper.
I love just about anything from Dave Barry and Douglas Adams. Both incredibly witty and I tend to laugh when reading their stuff, which is surprising as I hardly laugh when I'm on my own. I recently stole my Dad's "Five complete Novels of P.G. Wodehouse" collection. It gives me a headache if I try to read too much of it, but it is a lovely read in short bursts.
Hm, my very good friend who goes by Storkos here introduced me to a children's book series, like 101 Ways to Bug Your Teacher. They're surprisingly good for children's books and the author is one of the nicest people I've E-mailed.
Uhh...oh yes, the Redwall series! If I ever need help to describe a setting, I head straight for my collection of Brian Jacques books. The man is a genius in descriptions.
That's all I can think about right now. I'm not even going to go into Manga, comics and screenplays as I'll be here rambling all night. :D

I also like reading poetry. I find it a great way to vent your emotions and feelings. Like the poem my friend wrote on my hand today!
As I lay dead
Falling into the abyss
No expression on my face
Emotionless.
Yeah, it's emo, but I still like it! :D

Oh, yuck, look at all of the sicky books on my list from last year.
Shame, shame. Let's improve it a bit. =]
I really dig Jurassic Park (Michael Crichton) and, hmm, Watership Down (Richard Adams) and Catcher in the Rye (J. D. Salinger) and stuff.
My tastes in fiction have matured a lot in small amount of time...
I've been into a lot more science fiction these days -- got a couple of Bradbury's pieces lined up in my never ending pile of books...
Since we've been working with poetry a lot in Creative Writing because of our last project, I've gotten a bit more into it... still more of a book fan...
But I've got to say, I totes adore the works of e. e. cummings and Shel Silverstein. (Dead Poets Society, anyone?)
Newtgat, you're a writer? That's really cool! -- I'm one too, if the "Creative Writing" class didn't give it away. =]
What might you be working into, may I ask?
I'm personally just a fiction hack, haha -- though I've been writing lots of fragmented poems and such since that icky CW poetry project...
Well some of my favorites are Sword Bird, Howl's Moving Castle and Feed and I have a whole bunch of manga that I like to read so I'll just state the series that I'm on. Bleach, SGT. Frog, Black Cat, Dr. Slump, Absolute Boyfriend and Pokemon Adventures. And while looking along one of my bookshelves I found my favorite book of all time when I was five. The Cat Sat on the Mat. I thought the story was sooo cute. :3

Well, like my friend Newtgat there said, I'm a fan of Lee Wardlaw's 101 Ways series. :D They're absolutely amazing, even if they are meant for a younger audience. Though the author (who is a good friend of mine) has said she aims it to a younger audience to improve the sales through Scholastic book catalogs.
My guilty pleasure book series is, and always has been, Junie B. Jones. When I was a kid the title character's age I just found them a little funny, but after picking them up again after so long I'm absolutely roaring with laughter as I read. The author does an amazing job with the humor, and a very unique kind of humor at that.
I'm such a child on the inside.

Though lately I've been bogged down in dry, yet illuminating philosophical texts, I did get a chance to read some good books in other disciplines. First, I'll mention Walter McDougall's Freedom Just Around the Corner, the first of what should the most entertaining and perceptive American history series in recent years. Second, I'll recommend Fyodor Dostoyevsky in general, with special emphasis on his The Brothers Karamazov and Crime and Punishment. Third, Dante's memorable Inferno. Last of all, Victor Frankl's thought-provoking Man's Search for Meaning.
