Apple just blew me away with something unexpected that just happened.

The thing is, I didn't realize that iCloud functionality had gone live, yesterday, without me having to update iOS. I had just downloaded an app on one device, and my iPad (which was off and unplugged) immediately beeps. Huh? So, I take a look at it, and its telling me that I just downloaded an app on another device, and it can also download that app for me (over the air, without having to sync).

Wow. I'm just still in awe of having just experienced it, today.

Being able to download content (music, books, or apps) on any device today, and it gets wirelessly pushed to all your devices (http://www.apple.com/icloud/what-is.html).

If you have an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad running 4.3.3, go try out the iCloud features (http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/) and let us know what you think about it.

You're really making me want an iPad.

Edit: iCloud is not yet available in Canada. When I go to the site, it offers me the option of being notified when iOS 5 and iCloud are here. :(

You're really making me want an iPad.

Those iCloud features aren't specific to the iPad. The only reason my iPod touch also didn't notify me is because it's still running iOS 4.2.1 (for development/testing).

Still, with all the new features and software, an iPad in general is even relegating Macs (as well as PCs) to the place of "just another device."

OS X is moving closer to iOS. I'm excited about OS X Lion in general, and might swap out the Magic Mouse for a Magic Trackpad to utilize all the multi-touch gestures coming to Lion.

Having said that, I can easily see why iPads are the preferred platform of choice in a post-desktop one-device home. For weeks now, when I want to catch up with the latest news, I reach for the iPad, instead of using my iMac.

Edit: iCloud is not yet available in Canada. When I go to the site, it offers me the option of being notified when iOS 5 and iCloud are here. :(

That, my friend, is a bummer :(

I'm waiting for iOS 5 to be released, too, since I don't have an extra device to dedicate to beta testing, but fall will be here in a few months, and we'll both be able to enjoy all the new features.

Hang in there! :D

P.S. Check out Weather Doodle (http://twitter.com/AppStore/status/78231065449349120) on your iPhone! It's free for a limited time, and was the app I was downloading this morning.

There's an Apple iOS 5 hands-on preview (http://www.engadget.com/wwdc-2011/apple-ios-5-hands-on-preview) at Engadget if anyone wants to see/read more about it.
