Well, I find it a bit strange no-one has put this up earlier, but anyways...

The Nintendo 3DS: The Nintendo 3D DS. Nintendo's latest piece of wonder tech. To me, it dazzles the mind, but it's true. It was announced on a quiet Tuesday morning in March, the statement is as follows: "Nintend Co. Ltd will launch 'Nintendo 3DS'(temp) during the fiscal year endind March 2011, on which games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses"

The statement continues with:"Nintendo 3DS(temp) is going to be the new portable game machine to succeed 'Nintendo DS series', whose cumulative consolidated sales from Nintendo amounted to 125 million units as of the end of December 2009, and will include backward compatibility so that the software for Nintendo DS series, including ones for Nintendo DSi, can also be enjoyed."
And that was it, no more was said.

It boggles the mind. 3D without glasses? James Cameron will be wiping his eyebrow with a One Trillion Dollar note soon enough. And if that didn't satisfy you, here's some more things that it may have:

*It will have two screens like it's predecessors and touch screen compatibility

*Backwards compatibility for DS and DSi, so 3D Bidoofs may be on the horizon

*It could be the most Hi-res thing we've seen from Nintendo to date, possibly reaching 720p, YES!

*Rumble feature and control stick may be included, so it's like a handheld GameCube with more 3D-enish

*Two cameras, one on the front and one on the behind,like a DSi

*It might have an accelerometer built-in, like with the iPhone. Expect the revival of that Yoshi game on the GBA

*The 3D effect is caused by the frontal camera tracking the user's eyes and making a 3D virtual space for the user to look into

And that's all I can scavenge from Reggie, but expect for more info at E3 in two months. But, until then, keep good hopes. ;)

I thought they hadn't announced how the 3D was going to work, and that everything was just in speculation for now?
Where did you get your information? I haven't seen anything this detailed about it other than speculation...
Either way, I'm not getting excited until I see it with my own eyes... And until we get Time Traveler. ;P

Well, yes, I've seen/read many of the sites that have updated about it since it was announced, but I haven't seen information as detailed as you have it -- mainly the thing about how the 3D will supposedly operate and the possible resolution; everything I've seen has been speculation, for the most part.

I don't care if everything is speculation. It is a new system that will out do the current systems, it is backwards compatible and I am excited. I don't understand why it seems that most people are whining and complaining about this and that all the time.

I love any 3D object, i dont care if i need to be cross-eyed or need any glasses i just love 3D! And the DS always fascinated me. So the 3DS will be a great thing to have!

Well, Nintendo's E3 conference is over, and they did reveal the 3DS, but they didn't really give viewers a good look at how the screen works...
They elaborated on the features a bit -- which seem really cool! -- and the Kid Icarus Uprising trailer looks sweet.
A bunch of developers already have their titles in mind for the 3DS -- Atlus, Activision, EA, Square Enix, Bandai, Konami, Capcom, and more.
The trailer for the 3DS with the presidents getting sucked in and Nintendo stuff blasted out was cute. (: I wonder if maybe we can expect those titles on the 3DS? That'd be nifty -- Donkey Kong, Star Fox, Mario...
Bah! Im rambling. Looks good. I'm really excited for it now.

How it works is instead of having pyramids that transfer 3D images into your eyes on glasses like in movie theaters, the pyramids are on the screen. The reason this works is that in theaters people are all sitting in different places, so the glasses are necessary, but with the DS, you're more or less always playing it from the same distance. It looks very promising. I can't wait for the Animal Crossing Games.

All in all, this is a very good line-up. Possibly the best I've seen for any console. Reggie let loose a 2011 release on a talk show, but Ninty covered up by saying by "March 2011". Same thing?

3DS has some serious power under its hood. It can shift 15 million polygons a second, while sixth generation home consoles shifted 6-12 million polygons a second. It has gyroscopes (Motion-tilty things) to accompany games. Dead Or Alive has a particularly amusing feature to do with that... Wi-Fi is always on and automatically collects nearby 3DS data. It's always looking for Wi-Fi hotspots. To save battery juice, you can turn it off if you like. Anti-piracy is a measure for 3DS, disabling illegal R4s and such. Good guys for-the-win! Colours confirmed are red, blue, black, purple and orange. A step-up from the DSi's "Black & White" and DSi LL's rather horrible "Wine Red & Cardboard Brown".

Truly an amazing piece of kit. The shovelware that plagued DS and Wii are no longer on 3DS, as creating 3DS games causes the developer to invest. Yay! =]

If you guys didn't know, they announced the date that they're going to announce the release date and price. =P Silly Nintendo; an announcement for a date to announce a date...
Anyway, that date is September 29th, so we'll be able to know when it gets released and how pretty of a penny it'll cost fairly soon.

The Japanese release date for the 3DS was accidentally leaked via someone's tweet; it reads: “On November 20th, the 11 goods I designed for use with the 3DS will go on sale simultaneously. Those of you buying the 3DS, please buy them while you’re at it! This will be officially announced on the homepage eventually, lol. Best regards.”
The tweet came from someone who works for a company that does Nintendo accessories. Depending on how much you believe the credibility of tweets, this could definitely be real.
So, it looks like the Japanese will be getting their 3DSes pretty soon. Wonder when ours will be? Whether or not this is real, we'll know by September 29th, which isn't too far away anymore.

THE 3DS HAS A LAUNCH DATE!
... Well, for Japan, anyway.
That Twitter info was false; the Japanese release date for the 3DS is February 26, 2011. NA and European release is slated for March 2011.
It'll retail for ¥25,000, which is roughly $300.
NEW FEATURES:
- Mii Creation Center
- Virtual Console (including Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, and "classic games" in 3D)
- Faster downloads/uploads
- Multitasking
- Several augmented reality games included
- 2GB SD card included
- Stored game data
Launch colours are Aqua Blue and Cosmic Black.
