I have been told that to get a certificate the bonboon stops a fight but itried and all it did was stand there watching the fight.

They probably don't stop fights in Pocket Paradise, but that's not one of the certificates (http://pinataisland.info/viva/Achievements#tab=Pocket_Paradise).
