I heard about the shootout on the news when I got home today, and I must say I was shocked and horrified. I can't believe people like that would actually do cruel things like this. It makes me afraid to even walk the halls of my own school. You never know what could happen these days. My prayers go out to all of the students and families. This was truly a tragic event.

Did anyone else hear about the Virginia Tech Massacre?

Are you kidding? That's probably the only thing I've heard about since I got home. :(

On a serious note, someone is probably going to blame it on Video Games.

Jack Thompson: Oh god the kid had an Xbox and Halo. It's all Halo's fault.

All I can say is that the USA seems to be going lower and lower each month. Has there been anything on who the shoter was?

All they know is it was some asian guy who attended the college.

It was an Asian male. According to my sources the guy's girlfriend broke up with him and he killed all those people going for the man that his girlfriend went to.

well thats stupid of him he should be in jail for the rest of his life for killing over 2 people cuz normally 2 is 40-50 years over 2 is a lifetime

I saw pictures of police arresting an Asian man, but I thought the shooter shot himself at the end. Maybe the man in handcuffs was a friend who was also under suspicion?

Jack Thompson: Oh god the kid had an Xbox and Halo. It's all Halo's fault. Well that's just stupid, why does everybody blame videogames for these things?

If anybody other than the shooter himself should be blamed, it should be the parents, not the videogames. The parents CAN'T blame the videogames, since it's their fault in the first place that they're not monitoring what the kid's playing in the first place.

(that mini-rant probably doesn't make sense in this situation, since I highly doubt the shooter still lived with his parents)

That aside, this was a tragic event, looking at the numbers, more were killed/injured than dawson/columbine, yet I'm not seeing as much coverage as the formers. Why is that? Probably just because I live (by comparison) further away from Virginia Tech.

My condolences go to the families of the dead/injured

Other info on the shooter - I think he did have a bit of a mental problem + he had caught his teachers attention because he wrote disturbing stories in his writing class. They sent him to counseling but that obviously didn't work.

Correct. I'm watching the news right now, and they just said that.

Virginia Tech is a really cool place to go to school. And it's a good school. I got my CS degree there (class of '95) and got hired at Microsoft right away. I think part of the reason that everyone down there is so shocked is that it's a great community with really wonderful people. Hopefully the news reports that folks are seeing are letting that positive image through.

I've been away from PIF for the last two days, and in that time I heard about, and was shocked at, the appalling act of evil committed by that deranged killer (I won't say his name) at Virginia Tech.

While I would like to discuss the killer and his motivations, two things prevent me: 1) this is a family-friendly forum (and some of the information released about the killer is disturbing) and 2) the killer seems to want more attention, as his mailing of incoherent writings and video to NBC attests. In short, all I can say is that I can't quite figure out what would drive someone to such slaughter.

On a serious note, someone is probably going to blame it on Video Games.

I won't get into the video game issue. It seems a bit too soon for a debate.

I agree. VT is a very good school with a nice close-knit community. In fact, after the convocation ceremony (http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8OIL2IO0&show_article=1) on Tuesday those in attendance shouted: "Let's go, Hokies. Let's go, Hokies." It seems that Hokie spirit is steadfast even after what happened Monday.

Lastly, I would like to mention a hero, Professor Liviu Librescu (http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1176152812105&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FPrinter), who sacrificed his life by blocking the door of his classroom in order to prevent the murderer‘s entrance, allowing his class to escape through the windows. He was 76 and a Holocaust survivor.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families and to the students and faculty of Virginia Tech.

Well, turns out I was mostly right. Jack Thompson blames it on Counter Strike. (http://www.gamealmighty.com/story-individual/story/Thompson_Targets_Microsoft_in_Latest_Crusade/)

Yep...Microsoft is to blame for the deaths of 33 people.

This psycopath should've never been allowed on the streets. Seriously, what a wackjob. He even chained the doors shut so people couldn't run away if they wanted to.

It really isnt a "massacre" if you count 33 people as "lots"

Spartan

About 8 people were killed in the Boston "massacre". I'm not going to go out and say "1 person murdered is a massacre", but 33 does seem like a lot considering that it was the biggest in U.S. history. But to each their own opinion.

But if you consider Other events (911, pentagon) where LOTS of people died or even in different contrys (like Africa) where at least 100 people die a day in "Violent" incidents

As much as I don't like hearing about this topic either, it is most certainly not over. I think that it is fine if people still want to discuss the VTECH tragedy or other related materials. Just don't visit this thread if you don't want to hear it from PIF.
