Find the server for the game, imo.

If there's over 100 it shouldn't be too hard.

Sorry, I dunno what to say. I'd hoped to install the program to help you, but you need Half-Life 2, Half-Life: Deathmatch, and Counter-Strike: Source to get GMod 9.0 to work, and I'm not spending 45 dollars.

All right, here's the situation:
You need to own, and have started up, Half-Life 2 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/220/), Half-Life 2: Deathmatch (http://store.steampowered.com/app/320/), and Counter-Strike: Source (http://store.steampowered.com/app/240/) AT LEAST ONCE so that GMod can acquire all the necessary files and things from each program. This should fix your problem.

From the Steam website description: "This game requires that you own a Source engine game such as Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 2, or Day of Defeat: Source. Click here for a full list of games that meet this requirement."
Both Half-Life 2: Episode 1, and Half-Life 2: Episode 2 are on that list, so I assume running either of them at least once will enable GMod 10 to work. Every Steam game which includes a Source SDK. (http://store.steampowered.com/search/?category2=16)
This might also get GMod 9 running, but I'm not so sure about that.

Gmod 9 is no longer supported.
Taken straight from the garrysmod.com webpage.
I just installed GMod 9 and... Stop! Sorry but GMod 9.0 is no longer supported by me. The answer to all GMod9 questions is "Get GMod10".Then again, I didn't have CS:S before. I'll edit this post if it works now.
EDIT: It does work, so I guess you need Counter-Strike Source.

Okay, first of all there are two ways. Either way you will have to go in:
My Computer\Local Disk (C)\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\username\garrysmod\garrysmod \addons
. That's the best place to put your downloads before they are installed. Also, the C can be any letter, depending on your computer. For me it is C though.
Then the first way only works if inside the zip file there is a single folder. That folder should have a name similar to what you are downloading. Just copy that folder into the addons folder. (right outside the zip file) The second way works, folder or not. Go in the zip file. If there is that single folder again, go inside it. Inside there should be a few folders, labeled "lua", "materials", "models", and such. Copy all of those folders, then go out of the folder, out of the zip file, and then out of the addons folder. Paste them right there. If it asks you if you want to replace any folders, say "Yes to All".
Now when you go into GMod, if it is just used as a prop (or a ragdoll) and doesn't do anything special, it will normally have its own spawnlist in the "Props" tab. If it is a living person it will go under "NPCs" and will sometimes have its own spawnlist. If it is a usable weapon it will go under "Weapons". It will sometimes have its own spawnlist. If it is a drivable vehicle then it will go in "Vehicles" and usally have its own spawnlist.. And if it does something special (eg. give you health when you touch it) that doesn't fall into any other category then it will be under "Entities".
For downloads, I would reccomend first downloading the following.
PHX3 : A mod filled with metal plates, wood, glass, wheels, and other stuff used for constructing awesome machines. Almost all servers have this and almost all very-good working machines use this pack.
WireMod : A very good building mechanism that allows you to make machines work using the "wire" system. Although it is technical (I still haven't figured most of it out), you can create practically ANYTHING in GMod.
Extra NPCs : There might be a few called this, but there is one pack under this name that adds in all of Half-Life 2 and its episode's NPCs that you cannot spawn in GMod normally, like the gunship and strider.
Vehicle Collection : There is one vehicle collection (actually misspelled "vehical collection") that includes Kuno's car pack, VMow, RPCars, and a few others.
And last but not least, any tool pack. Most tool packs include the most popular and most useful tools that are out.
Then you can start getting the stand-alone items. You don't NEED to download the listed items, but it is reccommended.
Also, if all else fails and it doesn't show up anywhere else, try going into the "Browse" tab and clicking on the plus sign next to the "garrysmod" folder. Then try to find it there.
