Co-op Help, can't get it to work

I keep seeing references to the Co-op feature of this game while being on the same couch. I read that you just have to plug in the other controller and press start.

Now, I have wireless controllers so there's no plugging them in. But I do make sure they're both on and are both signed into profiles. But while in a garden, I can't get it to sign the 2nd person into the garden no matter what button I press.

Can anyone let me know what I might be doing wrong?

just press start on the second controller and it should work.

The only caveat I've heard around that one is that they both must be signed into different profiles. After that just hit start on the second controller.

You might need to make sure that the second player has started a VP game at least once, but I'm not positive.

actually you just have to press start. no profile is required

note: this was during online multiplayer. i started a garden, powered the 2nd controller on and just pressed start.

also note the 2nd player's gear was way above the level i was actually at.

You might need to make sure that the second player has started a VP game at least once, but I'm not positive.This is not the case. The second player does not access any VP save data so you don't need to have played the game "properly" on the couch social controller.
