While not directly Viva Pinata related, it sure sounds awfully familiar:

In a press conference today at E3, the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo, The Sims, an Electronic Arts Inc. Label announced (http://www.ea.com/read/20080714-SimAnimals.xml) the first details for the all-new SimAnimals. This all-new franchise and original intellectual property from The Sims Label establishes a whole new category of wild animal games. Made exclusively for the Wii and the Nintendo DS, SimAnimals will be available worldwide in January 2009.

Now, for the first time players can engage with the wild world of animals in their natural surroundings in an immersive and tactile way. In this game you are challenged to engage, touch, move and try to control more than 60 animals as you journey deeper and deeper into the forest. You control an on-screen animated hand that allows you to reach out and touch, pick up and move everything in the game from foxes and bears to trees and flowers. Cohabitate with these animals in their natural surroundings, and based on how you treat them, the animals will come to know and love - or dislike you! Have fun developing relationships with wild animals and their families, and experience the humor and drama of surviving in the wilderness.

"SimAnimals opens up a new world of creativity with wild animal adventure, fun and mischief," said Rod Humble, Head of Studio for The Sims Label. "For the first time in an animal game, you can reach out and touch, engage and play with a huge cast of wild animals in their natural surroundings. SimAnimals offers an immersive and tactile experience using the Wii remote and the Nintendo DS stylus that allows you to easily and intuitively become part of the wood's expressive, quirky and sometimes surprising narrative. Classic story-telling about wild animals comes to life in SimAnimals."

Wild animals abound! You will meet a host of friendly wild animals including deer, squirrels, rabbits, hedgehogs and owls. And also some mischievous characters like foxes, raccoons, badgers, crows and bears who love to stir up trouble. Get in the middle of the action as they all come together in your very own forest setting for a wild time!

Solve challenges and achieve goals throughout the game, because the animals need you to help them thrive. Discover secrets, unlock forest areas and uncover one-of-a-kind objects and wild animals, some with special abilities, by successfully completing tasks. It's survival of the fittest, as you find out who the troublemakers are and who the good guys are to make sure everyone gets along - or not!

In SimAnimals on the Wii, take up to three of your friends with you on a forest adventure in cooperative play mode! The forest, filled with exciting wildlife, is big enough for you and your pals.

And, SimAnimals is tailored for the Nintendo DS. Use the stylus to orchestrate your wild animals and their environments!

Leave it to no one else but EA to try and muscle in on every single franchise out there. I can't stand them sometimes.

Tecniclly they arent stealing.... If it was Pinatas then it would be stealing
also Viva Pinata wasnt the 1st Life simulation(such as The Sims, Sim City, Ect) which i think is the genre that Viva Pinata falls into
But Viva Pinata is 1 of the best imo :p

Yeah, technically they aren't stealing at all, but EA just sees a genre/franchise of games that is doing well and the have to muscle in everywhere to make money.

All developers/publishers are in the buissness to make money, but most of them also do it because they love it too. As a hardcore gamer, EA has proven to me time and again that they care little about making games and serving fans and only about making money. If they make a great game, more power too them, but they have a terrible reputation for this kind of stuff. Look at the Tony Hawk series and skate. Sure, skate was better than the last Tony Hawk game, but EA saw that the Tony Hawk franchise was winding down and didn't wait a heartbeat to swoop in and do what?.... make money.

Skate was a good game, but it wasn't able to hold my attention the way the old Tony Hawk games did. It got really boring. And the Tony Hawk series? They're legends.

Occassionally EA gets in right and makes a game like Battlefield: Bad Company. But they have a long list of foul ups and a lot of people are tired of it.

Simanimals just sounds like a reeeeeeaally stupid version of VP. Seriously- interact with over 60 animals= there are over 60 pinatas in VP and it sounds like EA created simanimals 5 minutes before they announced it!!!

I know! The only good game EA ever made was Boom Blox for the Wii.

To be honest, a lot of ideas for games have been done. But they could do better at the copies.

I thought that Sims was good, but its actually Maxis' game, but EA just published it.

Hey, maybe it will be good, sure they gotten into that genre of animal collecting but like people have said in previous posts, they have made good games like skate, burnout, battlefield, ssx series etc. Maybe this one will be good as well.

They know how much people like animals, they probably figured it would rake in alot of money. But I wouldn't go shooting it down just yet just because it sounds similar to VP. It might actually be really good. Since we all like VP we might enjoy this too if it has enough original gameplay.

It sounds a lot like the Creatures series of games that I'm into, right down to the floating hand.

Except Creatures was a lot more detailed. :l

That's just it... Rashberries don't fly. PIGXIES fly... they may be similar to Rashberries, but they directly aren't. And what about those Rashberries in planes :D On topic, SimAnimals isn't directly like Viva Pinata, you don't make your own forest. You don't attract animals, and you in no way can send them to parties. (It's animal cruelty! DUH!). Now, don't tear me apart with your criticism just yet, I know it's similar and they may of been inspired by it, but a little too inspired. I'm not saying they didn't copy, and I'm not saying they did copy either, sort of in the middle. Is that all cleared up for you now?

The only good games EA is involved in are those they publish but have no say in.

Look at Maxis games for instance or the early westwood work (IE Red Alert 2).

AGREED. EA Games aren't altogether that good, but the ones they publish for Maxis are great, 'The Sims' series was a great idea.

Just because EA makes a game that looks almost similar to this game, it doesn't mean it's a copy of Viva Pinata.

Please EA stop making Sim's games, that is all.
